The Business Toolkit

The 'Cluster' system which was so successful under the Skillnet project is being refreshed as a series of 'Butchers Business Clubs'.

The first two of these under this name are being set up in Cork and Dublin to complement the existing clusters in the Mid West, North West and North East.

Butchers differ form many other businesses in the sheer time they devote to their business. This can be up to 70 hours a week.

Is this bad organisation?

Not necessarily. A butcher's shop is a six day a week operation and long days at that. Skilled staff are in short supply, (not least because of Saturday working) and it will often fall to the owner to plug any gaps that arise.

But invariably even important things such as participation in training & development initiatives tend to get pushed to one side.

A BAD MISTAKE!

The old question is how do you make the time to work ON the business when you spend so much time working IN the business.

You just gotta!
