Employee Rights and Employer Obligations

Every year ACBI represents a small number of its members at employment tribunals. They had never planned on being there. But it's relatively easy to plan for NOT being there. Ensure that you won't end up there.

One Day Workshop

Every year ACBI represents a small number of it's members at tribunals. They had never planned on being there. Neither did they plan to ensure that they wouldn't end up there.

Ignoring procedures is often as costly in time and legal expenses as in awards. Unfair Dismissals legislation and case law confirm that employers' failure to follow correct procedures may itself be a breach of the law. There is now even greater emphasis on procedures and record keeping.

These procedures can in fact be viewed as a valuable tool as they provide protection and guidelines on how to deal with a specific situation. Record keeping requirements have also grown significantly, and very specific requirements are defined in all recent legislation.

Bad staff management practices could have you in trouble, facing a tribunal appearance, fines and bad publicity. This workshop will cover such areas as:

Recruitment and Selection
Terms of Employment (The Contract), Employee Handbooks
Job Descriptions, Questioning techniques
Employment Equality Act 1998

Handling Disciplinary Issues
Unfair Dismissal Legislation
Disciplinary & Grievance Procedures

Harassment, Sexual Harassment and Bullying in the workplace
Anti bullying policies, Relevant legislation

Organisation of Working Time Act 1997
Record keeping
Holiday and Public Holiday Leave
Rest period, Maximum working time

Statutory Leave - an overview

Recent Legislation
