Consultation or Discipline is initiated by you, the employer. A grievance is initiated by the employee.

In general, these will be relatively minor, eg punctuality, poor attention to work, rudeness to customers etc, or a grievance about some aspect of conditions of employment.

For more serious breaches, or a succession of minor ones a letter of warning amounting to a sort of 'Yellow Card' should be issued. Always keep a record .

Keeping records will keep you straight. More importantly. It will get the best out of your most important resource.....Your staff.

Never ever dismiss a staff member for any reason unless you have;

Conducted a full investigation
Given notice of and held a hearing into the alleged misconduct
Allowed for representation
Issued notice of termination in writing observing the correct notice period
Always contact ACBI before doing anything.
